Why Do We Write Our Life Stories?

Why Do We Write Our Life Stories?

I ask the question for two very different reasons.

The first reasons to ask the question as a motivational tool, helping you complete your work. If you can identify why you are doing a project, you are more likely to complete that project. “Just because” is not a good omen that your project will be completed. So why is important to you to complete it. Life stories or Life Reviews can take a long time to complete so you want to insure the work gets done.

The second reason I ask is if you know why you are writing it, it will help you know  what you want to write. It is also  another way to get your work done more easily and that way completed too. Most of us are not famous, when we start to write we need to know what we are going to write about. Why we write will help guide us as we start the project.

Thoughts or Triggers:

  1. Do we want to pass down our values?
  2. Do we believe someone might learn something from our life’s lessons?
  3. Do we want to understand the times in which we lived?
  4. Do we really want them to know us- our triumphs and failures?
  5. Are we the last link to the past generations of our families and want to pass that information down to family members?
