What You Write Depends on Your Mood...

List a group of facts that could be part of any one’s day and you write about them and you will notice that you mood and attitude of life reflects greatly on what you write. This a different kind of trigger; look at an event that happened in the last year,  list the facts. Write about it as if you were writing about it that day. Write about it as you look back on the event today.

Driving on the highway in Downtown Duluth going 50 miles an hour and my tire went flat called for tow and then had new tires put on the car.

If I was writing about it that day, I would have written that I had my book club in the car and we needed to be back in the Cities at 5pm and the flat would cause one member to be late. I would have written that I did not have the money for the new tires that I had to charge.

Now if I was going to write about it, I would write that all of us really supported each other through this challenge. We supported the person who would be late and supported the person who was surprised to be spending 500 dollars on four new tires. I would write having the tow service made the problem less sever. I would write about ways I could have mitigated the situation and I would write that it I was able to make through that challenging day with our any scares.

All of you, I am sure have a different situation, one that might be more traumatic but one that caused some change. Mine is that the girls of book club became closer that day.

I discuss this so you know to go back over what you wrote and see if you still feel that same way than when you started you memoir or your life story. Writing about history and listing facts is so much easier but when you delve into your own life you need to stay with how do you feel about this…
