It is that time of year again when articles are circulating the web and magazines saying that this is the perfect time to declutter. It is a resolution waiting to go on a list and never to be completed. I want to agree with all of them about decluttering but for a different reason. Going through your stuff gives you lots of triggers that are customized just for you and by you. I also think if you write about all those items that are cluttering your closets and drawers then you can give them away easier. We hold on to stuff because we don’t want to loose it from our lives but most of those things really have been replaced with new things.. We just need to put our arms around of memories of them and write those down. Then we can just give them away to many places that can resell them to raise funds for a charity. Some places just give the stuff to needy families. You would have to agree the someone using your stuff that really needs it is alot better than sitting in your closet where you can not even find it. I know some of you try to teach your children about giving and charity but you still can get yourself to do it.

Squirreling Away Too Many Things
Writing about all things gives us the ability to deal with the emotions that we are holding on to with all this stuff. For a lot of us those things hold issues we have not dealt with. Writing will give you a cathartic way of recongnizing the issues and at long last dealing with them.
Grandma Pie Plate does not need to be thrown out. Somethings really to have a memory value but dresses in the wrong size or all the books that have never been read or will be read can really find a good new home.
Once our lives are decluttered it gives us energy and a new freedom. And that is another thing to write about. If you are a clutter-person let us know about this journey. It will not be easy but well worth the trip!. Did the triggers of stuff help you write? Did you feel better now that you have given this stuff away? Did you write and still want to keep this stuff? YOU maybe able to help someone just like you!

I never thought of it the way you mentioned. But it is true, getting rid of clutter, and even organizing one’s life by writing things down does make a positive difference. In writing my memoir “Divine Betrayal,” I was able to organize, see what was important, and throw away those things that didn’t matter.
