Memories can come crashing down
Triggers work since they resonate some where in our memory. Not every one has the same experiences and not the same memory. If one good trigger gets you to write for an hour or a day then you are one step closer to getting your life story written. My life experiences and family history are different from yours which is why I have memory essays in my newsletters. I try to write about the things that we may have in common. Then I write the triggers around that essay. My triggers may get you to remember something totally different and that is okay if it helps you write. This is not a class with an assignment that will graded on how you answer the question. It is an opportunity to remember about your life and write about it.
Some of us may remember a song and that will get us to write about the events when they heard that song. Some of us will encounter a smell and that will get us to write. Each of us is so individual and that is why our life stories are so unique. Our experiences are so different that our stories and memories around those stories makes reading them so much fun.
We all start life with a mother and father. That is where our lives differ. You may have been raised by a grandmother, had two fathers or end up with a step mother or step father or two. Our life experiences are not the same but our longing to be connected to the next generation and those coming after is one of the things that bind us together. Our lives are different and we should celebrate that difference since it is our past.
