Jesse James
Jesse James was born on September 5, 1847 in Clay County, Missouri. He had an older brother, Alexander Franklin, who went by the name Frank, and a younger sister, Lavenia. After their father died (http://www.prlog.org/11996370-green-smoke-coupon-code-latest-working-coupons.html), their mother remarried twice, first to a man named Benjamin Simms and then to Doctor Reuben Samuel in 1855. Jesse James's mother, Zerelda and Reuben Samuel had four children together.
Missouri was a border state and during the Civil War there were many conflicts that happened there. Groups on both the Union and Confederate sides were guilty of many atrocities but the James-Samuel family took sides with the Confederates at the beginning of the war. Jesse James's brother Frank joined a local company (http://www.prlog.org/11996518-bh-cosmetics-coupon-codes-save-30.html) that was part of the secessionist movement but shortly after that he became ill and returned home. In 1863 he was thought to be the member of a guerrilla squad operating in Clay County and a union militia raided the James-Samuel family farm looking for the group. The union militia tortured Reuben Samuel.
In 1864, Jesse and Frank James joined a bushwhacker group led by Bloody Bill Anderson. It was reported that Frank and Jesse were part of a massacre in which 22 unarmed Union troops were killed. The Union army forced the James brothers to leave Clay County.
After the Civil War, one of Jesse James's old commanders kept his bushwhacker gang together and they committed a series of bank robberies. It is unclear whether Jesse and Frank took part in these robberies (http://www.prlog.org/11996509-checks-unlimited-offer-code-50-off-coupon.html) but the brothers eventually became famous in December of 1869 when they robbed the Daviess County Savings Association in Gallatin Missouri. They didn't get a lot of money during the robbery apparently Jesse shot and killed the cashier. Jesse and Frank made a daring escape through the middle of posse shortly after the robbery and this put their names in the newspapers.
The James brothers joined forces with the Younger brothers and some of their associates, forming the James-Younger gang. The gang committed a string of robberies (http://www.prlog.org/11998277-tigerdirect-coupon-code-20-off.html) from as far north as Iowa to as far south as Texas and from as far east as West Virginia and as far west as Kansas. They robbed banks and stagecoaches and on July 21, 1873 they committed their first train robbery.
The Pinkerton National Detective Agency was on a mission to stop the James-Younger gang and the founder of the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Allan Pinkerton, was on a personal vendetta against the James family.
Eventually the James-Younger gang began to unravel but Jesse James recruited a new gang in 1879 and returned to a life of crime by holding up a train in Glendale, Missouri. This led to a string of robberies (http://www.prlog.org/11996524-lifelock-promo-code-20-off-coupon.html) but the gang members eventually began to turn on each other and some of them were also captured. Jesse James grew paranoid and believed that some of the gang members were killed by other members.
In 1882 Jesse James felt that there were very few people that he could trust. What James did not know was that one of the men he trusted, Bob Ford, had made secret negotiations with the governor of Missouri to bring Jesse James to justice.
On April 3, 1882, just after breakfast, Jesse James and the Ford brothers were getting ready to commit another robbery. It was an unusually hot day so Jesse James removed his coat and his firearms. He got up on a chair to dust off a picture when Bob Ford shot him in the back of the head. The Ford brothers were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and they were quickly indicted, pleaded guilty, and were sentenced to death by hanging. Within just two hours of sentencing, the governor granted the Ford brothers a full pardon.
I am not a fan of criminals by any means but I am a history buff and it would be interesting to see the house where Jesse James was killed. Maybe with a hotels.com coupon (http://www.prlog.org/11996528-sittercity-promo-code-25-off-coupon.html) and some discount air fare I will be able to make the trip.
